Phrases from A Home Visit from the Doctor

When the doctor visited. Here are some of the IDIOMS, SLANG and VOCABULARY we used.

On top of the world –to be very happy

Under the weather –feeling bad or sick

Splitting headache –a very bad pain in one’s head

Running a fever –when one is very hot and sick

A turn for the worse –when things suddenly get bad

I blacked out –to lose consciousness for a few seconds

Out cold –to completely lose consciousness

Brought me around –woke me up

Plied me – gave me something using some force

Symptoms –physical signs

 

Kicks enjoyment, fun

Burning the candle at both ends –not sleeping enough

Hit the gym –go to the gymnasium

Did a number on me –got angry with me

Sweet tooth –to like sweet foods

Check-up examination by a doctor

Drew my blood –took a sample of my blood

Thermometer instrument measuring body temperature

Influenza -a common sickness

Over the worst of it –to be getting better
